Mulch, mulch, mulch, mulch...

Other than adding manure and compost, the best thing you can do to improve your garden is put mulch on top of your soil. Not only does it reduce soil evaporation and improve soil quality, but it suppresses weeds saving you potentially hours of precious time... now that's worth the price of mulch!

Options include:

- alfalfa meal & pellets

- grass clippings

- leaves, shredded

- hay and straw, organic

- newspaper, shredded

- pine needles - for alkaline soil to make more acidic
